Record high investor confidence in Taiwan for second straight quarter
The ING Investor Dashboard Sentiment Index for Asia rose to 143 for the third quarter of 2009, the highest survey score ever, indicating that Asian investors see Asia-Pacific markets leading global economic recovery. Simultaneously, Taiwan investor sentiment reached 153, a new high for the second straight quarter. Indices for 10 categories, including personal wealth, household wealth and return on investment, set new records compared with the 2008 ING survey results.
The Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research (CIER) announced on October 16 that private-sector investment is projected to grow by 8.16 percent in 2010 due to an anticipated increase of investment in the technology, emerging and green-energy industries. Consequently, projected economic growth for 2010 has been raised by 1 percent to 4.65 percent. CIER further estimates that economic growth will exceed 5 percent if an economic cooperation framework agreement (ECFA) is signed with Beijing by 2010.
During a meeting on October 13 with Dr. John R. Wells, president of the Lausanne-based International Institute for Management Development, President Ma Ying-jeou stated that Taiwan's economy has demonstrated growth since the third quarter of 2009. And with domestic economic indicators compiled by the Council for Economic Planning and Development showing yellow-blue for three consecutive months, optimism about the anticipated economic outlook is buoyant.
